With the forthcoming increase of the minimum wage to BGN 710 from next year, Bulgaria is trying to get closer to the European expectations that the minimum income will be at least 50% of the average salary in the country.
On 25 November, the European Parliament gave the green light to start negotiations with the European Council on a directive that will guarantee all workers in the Member States a fair and adequate minimum wage. The regulation is expected to be adopted after next summer.
